JYC Preparation

I've been sharing some of my JYC preparation on Instagram (my username is julesdix), and I thought I'd post a few of my photos on here too. I'm using Sn@p page protectors this year, in an album that I've made from two pieces of chipboard and book rings, covered with canvas. I've started with a title page in a full 6x8 protector:
I'm doing a combination of JYC and December Daily - where things happen that are Christmas related on a particular day then that's what my page will be about - on those less exciting days in between I'll use one of Shimelle's prompts. I've organised my page protectors (I'm using full 6x8, two 6x4 and four 3x4 pockets), and I'm starting to put together the inserts with the dates. This is day one:
Some of the date inserts will include journalling, but some pages will have room for a date insert plus a journalling insert - like day two:
And some of the inserts will just be pure embellishment, like this one:
I'll be keeping notes in the pockets where I'm intending to put photos, so I can print a batch off at once and add them in. Really hoping that all of this organisation means I'll actually finish my album this year!

What's in a Name?

It's sketch time over at The Studio today! For the second challenge of every month, the lovely Val creates a sketch for us to work with. This month she based her sketch on one of my previous challenge layouts (this one, if you're interested). I thought I might struggle to make a layout that didn't look like a blatant copy of my original, but I decided quite early on that I was going to replace the tags on the sketch with blocks of paper, so it flowed fairly easily from there.
I did struggle with the title though, and had to seek help from my fellow DT members - so thank you for the inspiration ladies!

Thanks for stopping by on what's turning out to be a perfect Autumn Sunday - it's cold and blustery, but the sky is blue and the sun is shining. A perfect day for a dog walk, except mine's perfectly content curled up on the sofa next to me while I scrap! She's so lazy :D
Do pop over to The Studio to see what the other DT members have created, as always there are some fabulous layouts!

Do The Hippy Hippy Shake

Last, but by no means least, is my third layout using Ann's kit, which features these fabulous papers from Glitz Design's 'Yours Truly' collection; 'Floral' and 'Motif', as well as the washi tape from the same collection.

This page design is great for using up scraps - I went to town on the paper and Bazzill card that I had left from the kit with various circle and scalloped circle punches, including a Martha Stewart punch all over the page circle punch. I took some care with the placement of the larger circles, but then randomly scattered the smallest circles and literally glued them where they landed. I love the way they look like Mojo has shaken them off!
If I'm honest, this is my favourite of the three layouts, and was one of those designs that I mulled over in my head for a while before committing it to a page. I wasn't sure if it would work, but I'm really pleased with the way it's turned out, and I hope the ladies at Ann's scrapbook club have fun with it!

Poop-Poop!

This is my second layout from Ann's kit club, which features these fabulous papers from Glitz Design's 'Yours Truly' collection; 'Floral' and 'Motif', as well as the washi tape from the same collection.
I've used one of the photos of my father-in-law's Morgan, which featured in the mini book that I created for the UKS cyber crop. I converted it to black and white to fit in better with the design that I had in mind. I've used the same Thickers as yesterday's layout, and added some black tulle behind the photo for texture. I've also added a chipboard tag, which I've wrapped washi round and stamped on, as well as adding a button.
I've done something very unusual (for me anyway) on both layouts from this kit so far - can you see what it is? I've actually added handwritten journaling! Granted, on this one the journaling is actually a quote, but still, it's in my handwriting! The quote is from 'The Wind in the Willows' by Kenneth Grahame, and says "'Certainly not!' replied Toad emphatically. 'On the contrary, I faithfully promise that the very next motor-car I see, poop-poop! Off I go in it!'"

Leafy Mattress

Ann's kit club this month features these fabulous papers from Glitz Design's 'Yours Truly' collection; 'Floral' and 'Motif', as well as the washi tape from the same collection.
The colours in the papers were perfect for this photo of Donnie, in one of his favourite Autumn positions - he loves to go outside when the sun is shining and make himself comfortable on a bed of leaves, silly cat that he is. As I've used quite a bit of the bold design at the top and bottom of the layout, I wanted to keep the centre fairly simple, so just added a doily behind my photo to give a bit of texture. I altered some Thickers with grey ink to match the stripes on the washi tape, which I've tucked under the floral paper.
As usual I've managed to create three layouts from the kit, so pop back tomorrow to see number 2!

I Am Lion, Hear Me Roar

I know I keep saying this, but I just don't know where time is going at the moment! I'm sure I'll be able to get back into a regular blogging routine soon - I certainly hope so, because I miss it. I'm expecting the imminent arrival of 'Christmas in a box' from the lovely Shimelle, and I'm determined to complete JYC for the first time this year, so there will be lots of festive updates coming this way shortly! In the meantime, here's a layout that I created with October Afternoon's 'Midway' collection :D
I also added a couple of wood veneer 'tweets' and a camera from Studio Calico.
Thanks for stopping by! The cybercrop at UKS is well and truly over now, and I think I can safely say that my class was well received - there are some fantastic layouts in the gallery, for my class and for everyone else's - so do check them out! I'll be back soon to share my class layout and a link to the class on UKS if you haven't seen it already and fancy having a go.
